When Consistency Becomes Bias: Interviewer Effects in Semi-Structured Clinical Interviews

Analyzing ANDROIDS, DAIC-WOZ, and E-DAIC datasets reveals that models trained on full dialogue transcripts achieve high classification accuracy by exploiting fixed interviewer prompts rather than patient language. Restricting models to participant utterances prevents this reliance on script artifacts and ensures decision evidence reflects genuine linguistic cues of depression.
