SFT and RL Fix Reasoning Trace Language in Low-Resource Models

Analysis of 3.6-4.0B parameter MoE models shows that while accuracy benchmarks are highly volatile in low-resource languages, SFT significantly improves reasoning trace alignment. Post-SFT, models reasoned in the target language on ~98% of items, whereas base models often reasoned in English regardless of the input language.
