Programmatic Tool Calling Outperforms Native JSON in 11 of 14 Models

Programmatic tool calling (PTC) uses typed Python stubs instead of rigid JSON to allow models to chain and parallelize scripts. On the BFCL v4 benchmark, PTC matches or exceeds native JSON calling in most models, with the GPT-5.6 family showing a 10.6% performance improvement.
