Test-Time Scaling Fails to Improve Factuality in Knowledge-Intensive Tasks

Evaluating 14 reasoning models shows that increasing inference-time computation via longer reasoning chains does not consistently improve accuracy on closed-book tasks. Instead, extended computation often increases hallucination rates due to confirmation bias and a higher frequency of incorrect attempts.
