Temporal Leakage Inflates Financial News NLP Performance by up to 6.5x

Random train-test splits in financial NLP benchmarks inflate MCC by 1.1x to 6.5x compared to chronological splits. An audit across 16 feature-model combinations, including Llama-3 and Qwen2.5, shows that only M&A event types maintain a positive signal under strict temporal evaluation.
