Benchmarking LLM performance in legal deception detection

An empirical evaluation of legal deception detection shows that fine-tuned transformer models outperform LLMs in data-rich general domains, while few-shot LLMs remain competitive in low-resource legal settings. The study notes that Chain-of-Thought prompting often underperforms direct classification in this domain.
