Latency and Technical Barriers for Speech-to-Speech Guardrails
July 24, 2026
Research into automotive speech-to-speech (S2S) assistants shows that transcript-based and tool-based guardrails introduce 0 to 1.4 seconds of latency. Current implementation strategies are deemed insufficient for industrial-grade automotive deployment due to these delays and non-deterministic tool behavior.
