Constrained Decoding for Tool-Call Abstention

This study analyzes how constrained decoding affects a model's ability to abstain from function calling. Testing models from 0.6B to 4B parameters shows that while grammar constraints fix token sets, they can significantly degrade an agent's ability to correctly decline a tool call.
