Reducing belief in conspiracy theories as they unfold using large language models

Conversational LLM dialogues reduce belief in emerging conspiracy theories more effectively than static fact sheets or irrelevant discussions. In two experiments involving 1,507 U.S. adults following major political events, multi-turn LLM interactions significantly lowered conspiratorial views and demonstrated sustained downstream effects over two months.
