Chained-Join Boosting Outperforms GNNs in Payroll Fraud Detection

A study of synthetic HR/ERP graphs shows that a tuned gradient-boosted model using chained-join features achieved a 0.823 average precision for link prediction. This performance exceeded GraIL-style GNNs, which scored 0.663, indicating that multi-hop gains are not exclusive to graph neural networks.
