Shared Causal Negation Representations Across Multilingual LLMs
October 26, 2026
Causal interventions on six open models reveal that negation is represented via shared, causally controllable directions across English, French, Vietnamese, and Chinese. Analysis shows negation is stored in sparse features, where a single sparse autoencoder feature can represent negation across different languages.
