Not All Nudges Land: Behavioral Controllability and Elaboration Quality in AI-Supported Journaling

AI-driven journaling prompts show divergent efficacy based on behavioral controllability. Analysis of 369 entries revealed that solitary behaviors improved in 50% to 63% of cases, whereas social behaviors improved in only 15% to 22%. Textual elaboration quality failed to serve as a consistent predictor of behavior change across all categories.
