Reasoning Approach Drives Better Mathematical Transfer than Topic

Fine-tuning LLMs on mathematical problems is more effective when training data shares the target's reasoning method rather than its topic. Experiments show that same-approach (SA) training produces superior cross-domain transfer compared to same-topic (ST) training.
