Spurious CoT Termination in Large Reasoning Models via Injected EoT Tokens

Analysis of early-exit methods for large reasoning models reveals that injecting end-of-think tokens often fails to stop reasoning behavior. The study finds that models continue reasoning-like generation into the answering phase, with the error scale proportional to the tokens saved by the early exit.
