Sequential vs. Parallel Test-Time Scaling in Machine Translation

Sequential sampling in test-time scaling achieves a higher performance ceiling for translation than parallel i.i.d. sampling. While sequential methods improve fluency and naturalness, they may degrade accuracy when inference budgets are sufficiently large.
