Fine-Tuned 0.8B Qwen3.5 Models Outperform Prompted Frontier Models in Grammar Annotation

A fine-tuned 0.8B Qwen3.5 model outperforms prompted GPT-5.4 and GPT-5.6 Sol on grammar mastery tracking benchmarks. The study demonstrates that internalizing annotation contracts into small model weights is more efficient and accurate than using verbose prompts on large-scale frontier models.
