A multilayer taxonomy categorizes LLM evaluation into 14 capability domains and 91 subskills across Primitive, Constructed, and Integrative layers. Mapping 15,934 papers from major AI conferences, the framework shifts assessment from isolated tasks to functional capabilities guided by cognitive science to identify evaluation coverage gaps.
