Coding Agents Prioritize Instruction Files Over Technical Documentation

An empirical study of over 600,000 agentic events shows that coding agents spend 60.5% of documentation interactions on instruction files and working notes. Conversely, they rarely consult classical technical documentation or API references, with an adjacent transition probability to code editing of only 0.002.
