Nonlinear Reward Models Outperform Linear Baselines in Arctic Shipping IRL

An evaluation of Inverse Reinforcement Learning (IRL) on 3,186 Arctic shipping voyages shows that nonlinear reward models improve held-out likelihood by 50.9% over linear baselines. The study tests whether latent context variables in meta-IRL capture genuine behavioral heterogeneity in changing ice conditions.
