Evaluating 25 models on a synthetic box-swap task shows that Chain-of-Thought (CoT) reliance follows a scaling law. In Qwen3, answer reliance increases from 16-18% at 0.6B parameters to 97-100% at 14B, following a logistic trend in log N with R^2 = 0.89.
HOW THIS AFFECTS YOU
●
builderYou can better predict whether a model's reasoning steps actually drive its final answer based on its size.
●
researcherYou can model the relationship between parameter count and reasoning reliability using this logistic scaling law.
