Maskable PPO Outperforms Random Control in Heterogeneous HPC Job Scheduling
October 16, 2026
Comparing PPO, A2C, and DQN against Slurm workload traces shows that MaskablePPO improves average waiting time and bounded slowdown on heterogeneous workloads. In homogeneous traces, no DRL treatment significantly outperformed the control, suggesting action masking is a prerequisite for any learned advantage.
