Cross-Lingual Summarization as a Robust Watermark Removal Attack
October 6, 2026
Cross-lingual summarization attacks (CLSA) systematically destroy token-level statistical biases in AI-generated text by using translation and summarization as a semantic bottleneck. This method outperforms monolingual paraphrasing in reducing detection accuracy for KGW, SIR, XSIR, and Unigram watermarking schemes.
HOW THIS AFFECTS YOU
●
researcherYou need to develop watermarking schemes that are robust against semantic bottlenecks across multiple languages.
●
policyYou must account for linguistic pivoting as a highly effective method for bypassing AI detection watermarks.
