Collection-Date Assignment Redirects Answers in Temporal QA

Assigning collection-date metadata to source revisions triggers significant temporal QA errors, reducing exact match scores by 37.6–51.4 percentage points across five open-weight LLMs. The effect persists across seven prompting strategies, suggesting models rely on acquisition timestamps rather than actual content changes. Matched thinking reduces Qwen3.5's performance penalty from 30.1 to 11.1 points.
