Cognition-Oriented Emotion Tracing from Causes to Consequences in Real-World Social Scenes

TRACE formalizes affective analysis into three stages—Condition, Affect, and Effect—to model emotion as a cognitive process rather than a static label. The TRACE-Bench dataset contains 3,746 question-answer pairs across 646 videos to evaluate multimodal models on cause reasoning and regulation decoding. Current models show a significant performance gap compared to human benchmarks in full-chain emotional reconstruction.
