SemICD Framework Improves Medical Coding Micro-F1 via Semantic IDs

SemICD replaces direct ICD code generation with hierarchically clustered Semantic IDs based on textual code profile embeddings. In MIMIC-III and MIMIC-IV experiments, this method improved Micro-F1 scores by 1.34 to 8.00 points across four tested LLMs.
