Testing across 24 environments using GPT and DeepSeek models shows that agents develop complex economic behaviors like loans, transfers, and resource allocation when provided with executable mechanisms for work and scarcity. Without productive tasks, agents communicate but fail to establish substantive inter-agent transfer activity.
