Parallel Sampling Beats Chain-of-Thought for LLM Tool Use

Systematic study on LLM tool-use finds that instance-level experiential knowledge gives stronger gains than abstract intent-level knowledge, and that widening reasoning via parallel sampling with aggregation outperforms deeper chain-of-thought prompting. The work covers knowledge acquisition, activation via prompting, and internalization via training across multi-step agentic tasks.
